He holds a Master of Science degree in Music Education from Towson University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Significant latin/jazz/commercial performance studies have been with Alex Norris (Blue Note Records, Verve Records, Amosaya Records, US 3, Incognito, Steve Winwood, Rumba Club), Bill Warfield (Interplay Records, SteepleChase Records, Sea Breeze Jazz Records, Rumba Club), Gary Thomas (Enja Records recording artist), and David Stambler (freelance recording artist and highly acclaimed jazz educator). Additionally, his classical trumpet studies were with Wayne Cameron (Spectrum Records, Peabody Conservatory, Annapolis Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, and the Chesapeake Brass Quintet).
Noteworthy performances have been with musical greats such as Ray Charles, Clarence Clemmons, War, the Drifters, Dionne Warwick, Jimmy Sturr, Roomful of Blues, Pieces of a Dream, Ronnie Dove, Taylor Dayne, Ty Herndon, concert pianists Pearl Kaufman and Paul Pappas, comedian Glenn Hirsch, renown magicians Leo Ward and Bob Brizendine, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Brian also performed for Pope John Paul II and appeared on Baltimore's ABC Television affiliate WMAR-TV 2's Rodricks for Breakfast, a highly rated two-hour live broadcast and appeared on the same station's Wake Up, Baltimore! Additionally, he received Honorable Mentions in the categories of Best Horn [Performer] in the Region and Best Freelance Musician in the Region in Music Monthly Magazine's 2001 and 2002 Reader's Polls.
Truly an artist-educator, Brian is a certified music educator in the State of Maryland and has taught extensively in both the public and parochial school systems. One of the most sought after trumpet teachers in the region, he maintains a busy private teaching schedule and is also on the teaching faculties of Baltimore City Community College, the Maryland Conservatory of Music, the Chesapeake Center for the Creative Arts and the Music & Arts Center.
Also an active conductor, his studies were with some of the finest teachers of the trade including Harlan Parker (Peabody Conservatory) and Chris Wolfe (Baltimore Symphony).
In addition to a highly demanding freelance performing and conducting schedule, Brian is a founding member of the popular Baltimore Brass and freelance horn section, the Baltimore Horns, and often performs with the Washington Jazz Orchestra. He is an active member of the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, California Lawyers for the Arts, the American Bar Association, Phi Alpha Delta, the Music Educator's National Conference, the International Trumpet Guild, the American Federation of Musicians Local 40-543, the Maryland Music Educator's Association, and the College Music Society, and his articles and reviews have been published by the ITG Journal and Music Monthly Magazine.
